“The CHEF'S TABLE: a true delight”

via TripAdvisor.com -New York, New York

I was on a business trip in the St. Charles area, when, after a hectic day of administrative torture, a colleague suggested we should go unwind over a glass of wine a good steak, as he put it:" at a very special place'. It looked impressive, standing out in the bald beauty of a turn of the century bavarian structure. At the door, we wrere warmly greeted by an amiable hostess with a sensual smile" welcometo Pepper stone".As she escorted us to our table I knew I was up for a really interesting evening. The decor was rustic yet soft and magically coated in the nostalgic tunes of the thirties jazz . Our table, a round for six, was set in simple elegant lines implying ease and comfort, round place mats matching the dark green table top, white Wedgewood china paved the way for the perception that food is not going to be complicated. Our server approched the table with a confident smile and welcomed us, then gave a thourough explanation of the menu, " You are going to be delighted", and we were indeed...

The new chef owner showed up to greet us and offered to cook a five course dinner with wines which we immediately accepted. He was very jovial, warm and extremely sharp and focused, Clasically trained and widely travelled, his stories, when he joined dour table for a glass o wine after the meal, were more than a grand finale to a wonderful hight at Pepper Stone.

Our first course was an oxtail ravioli, spinach, roasted tomato and a light veal demi glace with a hint of Amish blue cheese. This dish made complexity look simple. The chef actually succeeded in allowing the bald flavor of the cheese to not only whisper to the palate but to unify all the other ingredients, The second course was a filet of atlantic salmon, pan seared, served over a ragout of broad beans, green beans and a vanilla butter sauce. The unusual combination of salmon and vanilla was simply impressive and totally original. Our intermezzo was ahome made strawberry jello topped with slices of mint marinated strawberries ,was another surprise at the simplicity of a jello taken to a new level of amazing delight. The main course consisted of a grilled beef filet accompanied with a root vegetable stew, portobello mushrooms and basil pesto, a classic mediterranean dish that had enormous depths of flavor but less striking in originality as the previous courses. Dessert literally stole the whole show: a sampler served in rectangular plate; bittersweet chocolate ganache with mini cookies, a blackberry parfait with vanilla chantilly and a chocolate doughnut bread budding, all masterfully arranged in differently chaped glasses... they were sinply stunning and that beauty did not take anything away from the sweet and tangy flaors of each variation.

A true delight...for just $ 45.. I am going back to new York with a totally different view of St peters. I will be back...

“A culinary powerhouse in the making”

Much more than just a steakhouse....it is truly a culinary powerhouse in the making. Mallard duck breast with sweet potato and corn succotash, Labrador salmon Filet with zucchini hollandaise and pickled tomatoes, dessert samplers... are just perfect instances of an establishment that really means business.

Everything is there: Knowlege, creativity and taste not to mention the affordable price tags. Hurry up and take advantage before it becomes an expensive destination restaurant; because, without aany doubt, it is a geat restaurant in its first genesis.

Bravo Chef Omar and congratulations St. peters. Finally we have a place that will put our city on the culinary map.....

Whether you are a food critic or you simply enjoy a good meal, Pepperstone Steakhouse has something to offer you. The steaks are great but once you see the vast selection of incredible menu choices, you will be like me and find it hard to order. Therefore, you will have no choice but to close your eyes and move your finger around the page, and order where it stops.

You won’t be disappointed with your selection, and this will cause you to come back and try everything else. If you aren’t feeling spontaneous, I recommend you try at least all of the following menu items upon your multiple visits, which I guarantee there will be.

Also, try one of their affordable “to-go” meals for the family sometime, you won’t be disappointed. (In no particular order)
1. Tenderloin of Beef
2. Boston Chicken Pot Pie
3. Nantucket Jonah Crab Cake
4. Jonathan Apple Cobbler, Cinnamon
5. Warm Chocolate Bread Pudding, Vanilla Sauce
6. “Sunday Brunch Buffet” (not a menu item but you have to try it.)

“Incredible Cuisine/Modest Prices”

Pepper Stone steakhouse is so much more than a place to get a good steak. In fact, as good as the steaks are I always go there for one of their other signature menu items such as the; Mahi/Mahi, Wilsher Pork Chop or even the Slow Braised Short Ribs. Truth be told I have never been disappointed with any of the dinner menu selections, lunch buffet or even their take out menu items.

Turns out the chef, Omar, who owns and just reopened this restaurant in Nov. 08 , use to be the Head Chef for the Ritz Hotels as well as the Chase Park Restaurant.

If you are in the area take time to experience a culinary delight which is very new to the St. Peters, MO area. Oh yeah, btw, don't forget to try either the Chocolate Bread Pudding or Apple Cobbler. Both we leave you asking for more.
